The Sacrament of Love

  1. On the night before your death, the hour for your parting come,
and having loved us to the end, You now prepare
Your Body and Blood for the Cross.
Upon the altar, here before the sacrifice of Heaven’s love.
Your heart endows to strengthen me by giving out
your Body to feed me as bread.

NOW OH LORD, TO YOUR ALTAR ON MY KNEES
I BRING MY HEART, THIRSTY TO DRINK
FROM THE MYSTERY OF YOUR LOVE.
WHEN WE EAT AT THE BREAKING OF THIS BREAD
WE TRULY BRING INTO THIS WORLD
THE FORGIVENESS OF THE CROSS. (2x)

  2. Victim for salvation’s sake, the true redeeming sacrifice,
You now unite us here today to share this meal
    which offers us eternal life.
In communion we rejoice, we are one body built in You.
Eternal God, the Church was born out of the spring
that flowed from the wound in your side.

NOW OH LORD, TO YOUR ALTAR ON MY KNEES…
BLESSED HEART, WHO FOR LOVE WAS WHOLLY SPENT,
THAT FROM THE CROSS MERCY DESCEND
    ON THIS SINNER’S HUMBLE HEAD,
NOW RECEIVE THE OBLATION OF MY SELF
WHICH I NOW PLACE ON THE ALTAR TO DWELL
AS A LIVING SACRIFICE, FOR THE LORD.
